This motto was framed and put up in the hall in 1929. Where is it? Lost along with the painting the Armenian girls gave in memory of their sister. Also all the trophies????
There seems to have been an effort made at some point, possibly under Treagust, to remove and do away with as much evidence of the school's past as possible. Even the names of the school Houses were changed as they used to be a reminder of key people from the early part of the school's history. It is a huge tragedy that so much was removed and destroyed.
The House names wer changed from key figures to the names of flowers first. That was the first attempt to forget those people. Then to the present names later to make it more difficult to trace back. The trophies went with them because they had the names of those people on them. Althouggh a very amateurish forgery of the Trust itself a lot of effort appears to have been made in the cover up
Hello, Hope you are well. My name is Razan Elshazali, and I'm the owner of @womenofsudan on Instagram. I used to go to Unity High School as a student, however, I do not think we ever crossed paths. I just wanted to thank you infinitely for your work on the UHS archives. It makes me so happy knowing our vast visual history is preserved, digitalised and easily accessible. I use the website regularly to find content for my page and future website, so I really just wanted to contact you to let you know, on behalf of everyone that has ever attended Unity, that we appreciate your efforts immensely! Thank you for your dedication and for your time. Reply from Steve Gooch: Dear Razan, Thank you so much for your email which is very much appreciated. The Unity High School Archive has been a labour of love for many years now, though somewhat silent in recent years. I am glad that you find it to be of use. There are other materials still to be posted to the Archive that have been collected ov...
The following is an email exchange between the Principal; Dr. Marina Hitchen and the former school Trustee Charles Bonsall. Although it was originally decided to honour the request of Charles Bonsall not to publish his correspondence in full so as to protect Pat Clague's reputation, this decision was reversed when it was discovered that Bonsall's testimony could not be fully relied upon and that he had lied over his signing of the 1995 Trustee appointing letter, which can be found here: A Letter Purporting to be From a Meeting of the Trustees in Which New Trustees Were Appointed - 7th June 1995 . Any future correspondence between Dr Marina and Charles Bonsall will be added here as it becomes available. Dear Sir, I thought you would like to look at the archive file we have set up for Unity High School and its history. I know you have all worked very hard to preserve documents in Durham University but they are not accessible to all those interested in the school. Here is the link...
